Group Sizes Announced for 2021

The USBands approach to competitive marching band has always been to organize group sizes based on the number of total student-performers, including musicians, guard, and drum majors, to provide the most level competition between bands.

USBands has spent the past several weeks analyzing data from the registrations for the 2021 season in order to provide the fairest and equitable participation for bands during the upcoming season.

Due to the impacts from the pandemic being experienced by marching bands, the group sizes have been slightly revised for the upcoming season to reflect the current state of the activity for 2021 and will be re-evaluated each year moving forward based on the needs of participating bands and ongoing conversations with music educators.

USBands is unveiling a multi-year approach to restructuring A & Open classes to incorporate a fair and equitable structure that allows for bands to compete in the appropriate class each year. Bands in Texas will be competing in all in Open Class for the 2021 season.

Beginning with the uncertainty of the fall of 2021, A & Open Classes will be suspended for the Sept. 11 and 18 events and be reinstated at Sept. 25 events for the remainder of the season. More information will be available soon.
